Brand OS

A brand OS is the operating system for a brand: its strategy, verbal identity, visual identity, motion and governance, documented so that anyone, including AI tools, can apply it consistently. The governance layer, a named owner and an approval path, is what keeps it working.

What it means

Most brands document the visual layer and stop there. A brand OS covers the layers underneath (what the brand stands for and how it speaks) and the one on top (who decides, and how work gets approved), because a system without an owner fails by default.

As more content is made with AI tools, the brand OS doubles as their instructions: the rules, the voice and the examples an AI tool needs to produce work that sounds like the brand.

How we use it

Our method We treat governance as a deliverable, not a nicety: every brand system we build comes with a named owner and an approval path. The layers are set out in Brand OS Layers.
